2011 will be the start of 'a business IT security revolution'

Businesses and IT experts may be a part of a revolutionary new way of thinking when it comes to IT security, one expert has suggested.

Writing in a blog for Computer Weekly, David Lacey stated many of the security solutions currently on offer to IT professionals will not be sufficient to meet demands in the near future.

As a result of this, the specialist noted he expects to see a number of major shifts in thinking over the next 12 months.

The first, he said, will see people start building "acceptably secure" information systems in the aftermath of a major national security incident. In addition, Mr Lacey predicted emerging new security technologies, based on virtualisation and cloud computing, will become considerably more popular. The third is that growing numbers of experts will encourage small to medium-sized businesses to implement security solutions.

He concluded: "2011 will see the start of a revolution in security thinking, which will last for most of the next decade, a period that might prove to be a new age of enlightenment for information security."
