Companies across the world will find themselves in greater need of IT security solutions in 2011, and may have to rely increasingly on support from third-party IT service providers, an industry expert has suggested.
Writing for Computer Weekly, Mark Settle explained a growing numbers of firms will begin to innovate more with their use of IT over the next 12 months, as they continue to recover from the effects of the recent global economic downturn.
He noted: "As businesses become increasingly data-dependent and interconnected, the potential threat and impact of security breaches will be higher than ever."
Commenting on the most likely ways of combating this risk, Mr Settle went on to imply companies offering managed IT support could soon find themselves in high demand, stating: "In 2011 we will see an even greater dependence on third-party services to plug the holes in companies' security infrastructures."
In addition, the expert said more and more businesses' IT infrastructures are expected to include cloud and virtualisation this year, in a bid to deal with capacity procurement and greater amounts of data.
