All good things must come to an end…
Reflections on VMworld 2018
Number of Steps: 60000
Number of Sessions Attended: 40
Number of Snacks Eaten: Too Many
Number of Beers: Not enough
The last few days have been a fantastic insight into current and emerging technologies and I think we have gained valuable knowledge that we can apply to our everyday work. We are especially looking forward to talking to our customers about many of the session topics and giving them our take on some of the ways in which we can use these innovative solutions to enhance business outcomes.
As well as showcasing emerging technologies such as VMware’s take on containers and Kubernetes which was strengthened with VMware’s announcement of their acquisition of Haptio , a company founded by the creators of Kubernetes, we think some of the most useful sessions for us have been those that covered the best practices in what are sometimes seen as more traditional areas such as core storage , data protection and vSphere upgrades. These are sanity checks and confirmation of the important things that we are doing right now, challenging your assumptions and getting you to think outside your own ‘bubble’ of experiences.
We have also been able to further educate ourselves on technologies that we are currently evaluating such as vSAN and newer ones we are considering like NSX and VMware Cloud on AWS all of which have compelling features and benefits
The biggest challenge of the event, time! There is so much going on and so much you want to experience, there was nowhere near enough time to cover off everything we wanted to
As the event comes to a close and we think about our flight home, we feel extremely fortunate to have been able to attend this event and hope to be back again in 2019…
